Customer query: Sound-damping mat for sump guard
A customer approached us with the following problem:
"I am looking for a sound-damping mat for my motorcycle's sump guard. Around 4500 rpm, my engine makes a screeching sound that seems to come from the sump guard. This sound wasn't present before the sump guard was installed. Since the sump guard covers both the engine block and the exhaust, the mat needs to be quite heat-resistant. It would be helpful if the mat were self-adhesive, and as the inside of the sump guard is visible, the mat should also look a bit neat (see photos).
What is the best mat to line the inside of the sump guard with?"
The solution:
Given the circumstances, we recommend an insulation material without foam, as foam can act like a sponge in humid environments, which is not ideal. Therefore, we are looking for a compact, self-adhesive mat that offers both sound damping and heat protection.
