Armaflex insulation: what is it and which variant should you choose?
Introduction
Armaflex is a closed-cell elastomeric insulation material (Armacell) that helps prevent condensation and provides excellent thermal insulation. Due to its water vapor-tight cell structure, Armaflex does not require a separate vapor barrier and maintains its insulation value long-term, even in humid conditions.
This guide focuses on applications where reliability and moisture control are important: automotive, campers/vanlife, marine, and industrial installations.
Armaflex variants (note XG)
Our product range includes the main variants:
- AF/Armaflex – high-quality variant for condensation and moisture-sensitive applications
- Armaflex HOME – successor/replacement of the former XG variant (XG is no longer produced)
- HT/Armaflex – for higher temperatures
- NH/Armaflex – halogen-free, widely used for marine/railway applications, among others
Important corrections for names and sizes:
- AF is available from 3–25 mm
- HT is available from 10–25 mm
Camper and vanlife
For panel vans and campers, Armaflex is popular due to condensation sensitivity. Armacell and Isotec often recommend type AF, precisely because of the risk of condensation and mold.
- Helps limit condensation on cold metal walls
- Reduces the risk of moisture problems and mold
- Suitable for walls, ceilings, and difficult shapes
Armaflex sheets/plates
Please note: AF and HOME are not the same product, so do not refer to them as identical standard sheets.
- AF/Armaflex sheets: 3–25 mm
- Armaflex HOME sheets: replacement for XG
- HT/Armaflex sheets: 10–25 mm
- NH/Armaflex (halogen-free): for specific certifications/applications
Self-adhesive variants
Self-adhesive Armaflex (AF and HOME) has a self-adhesive layer with a peel-off liner and is popular for quick installation on flat, clean surfaces.
Please note: XG is no longer produced; HOME is its successor.
Product choice (brief)
- Camper/vanlife: AF/Armaflex
- Automotive: AF/Armaflex
- Industrial applications: AF or HT (depending on temperature)
- Marine/railway: NH/Armaflex
FAQ – Is Armaflex suitable for high temperatures?
The temperature range depends on the variant:
- AF/Armaflex: condensation-sensitive/thermal applications (sheets 3–25 mm)
- Armaflex HOME: successor to XG
- HT/Armaflex: higher temperatures (sheets 10–25 mm)
- NH/Armaflex: halogen-free, often marine/railway
Conclusion
Armaflex offers a strong combination of insulation and condensation prevention. HOME replaces the XG variant, and for campers, Armacell/Isotec recommends AF due to the higher risk of condensation. For higher temperatures, choose HT, and for halogen-free requirements (marine/railway), choose NH.
