About Tapes
Heat-resistant tapes come in two kinds: tape for finishing insulation neatly and tape that itself forms a reflective heat barrier. You will also find silicone tapes for sealing and repair here.
Finishing or reflecting
Finishing tape joins and protects the edges and seams of insulation material: the reinforced aluminium tape does not stretch or tear and forms a firm bond between insulation layers, while the end tape neatly seals the ends of exhaust wrap and stove rope. Reflective tape applies a heat-reflecting layer to small surfaces and complex shapes where a sheet of reflective foil is impractical; the gold tape withstands radiant heat up to 400 °C. The self-vulcanising silicone tape melts around itself into a watertight repair layer for hoses and cables.
Frequently asked questions
Which heat-resistant tape should I choose?
Choose finishing tape to finish edges and seams of insulation material, and reflective tape to apply a heat-reflecting layer; see the explanation above.
Up to what temperature is heat-resistant tape resistant?
Contact heat 85 to 550 °C, depending on the product: from foam rubber and silicone tapes to fiberglass tape up to 550 °C. Reflective tapes additionally withstand radiant heat up to 425 °C.
Does the tape adhere to every surface?
The self-adhesive tapes adhere best to a clean, grease-free and dry surface. Degrease the surface and press the tape on firmly; the self-vulcanising tape does not bond to the surface but to itself, and can therefore also be used on wet or greasy hoses.
