About Stove rope
Stove rope seals the door and glass of your wood or pellet stove airtight. A good rope regulates combustion air, prevents smoke blow-back and keeps the stove safe and efficient. This collection holds all ropes by the metre, on rolls and as repair kits, with matching adhesive, end tape and glass cleaner.
Round or flat rope
Round rope belongs in the groove of the stove door; measure the groove and choose the rope about 2 mm thicker. Flat rope seals the stove glass and flat seams and is self-adhesive, so no glue is needed. In doubt? The guide How to choose the right stove rope thickness walks you through it, including the check with clay or dough.
Maintenance that pays for itself
A worn rope lets air into the stove, disturbs combustion and increases fuel use. Replacing is simple: pull the old rope out, brush and degrease the groove, apply a thin line of heat-resistant adhesive and roll the new rope in without stretching. The step-by-step guide shows it all.
Frequently asked questions
Which thickness of stove rope do I need?
Take the old rope out of the door and measure its thickness, preferably with callipers and without compressing the rope; also measure the width of the groove. Choose the new rope about 2 mm thicker than the groove measurement, so it seals well after compression and stays in place.
Why should I check stove rope regularly?
A worn or damaged rope can let smoke and gases escape, with a risk of carbon monoxide indoors, and can prevent the door from closing properly. Combustion also becomes less efficient. Check the rope yearly; read here why.
Which temperature class do I need?
For most stove doors fiberglass up to 550 °C is sufficient. Premium knitted E-glass up to 800 °C lasts longer with intensive use; basalt fibre and ceramic rope up to 1100 °C cover the hottest applications.
What is the difference with fiberglass rope?
The same rope, different entrance: the fiberglass rope collection sorts the ropes by profile for industrial and general use.
