About Foam Acoustic and Thermal

Acoustic foam absorbs sound waves and insulates heat at the same time. The flexible material follows difficult surfaces, is oil-resistant and non-combustible, and gives off no toxic substances: suitable for almost any surface.

Application as second layer

Foam works best as the second phase of sound insulation, over a layer of anti-drumming sheets: the sheet stops the vibrations, the foam catches the remaining airborne noise. In campers and boats Armaflex also serves as condensation-resistant thermal insulation. We applied it that way in the restoration of a Volkswagen T2B and a Karmann Ghia coupé.

Frequently asked questions

Which Armaflex version should I choose?

AF/Armaflex is the high-grade version for condensation and moisture sensitive applications such as campers, vanlife and maritime; Armaflex HOME is the successor of the former XG version; HT/Armaflex is for higher temperatures and NH/Armaflex is halogen-free for marine and rail applications, among others. Self-adhesive AF and HOME sheets have a peelable liner. The full overview is in Armaflex insulation: what is it and which version to choose?

Which foam thickness do I need?

The thicker the foam, the more absorption and insulation: 6 to 10 mm fits behind panels and upholstery, 20 to 50 mm is for engine compartments, engine rooms and surfaces where there is space. Measure the available depth before choosing.

Does the self-adhesive foam bond to every surface?

On a clean, grease-free and dry surface the adhesive layer bonds directly. Degrease the surface first and press the foam on evenly, then it stays put on vertical parts and ceilings too.
