About Silent Coat
Silent Coat is a European-made brand of sound deadening material: self-adhesive mats of butyl with an aluminium top layer, made for cars, vans, campers and 4x4s. The mats damp vibrations and resonance in doors, floor, roof and boot.
Application
Silent Coat forms the first layer of the two-phase system we explain at sound insulation: the mat stops the vibrations, a layer of acoustic foam on top catches the airborne noise. From about 60% coverage of the panel the result is already optimal; press the mats on firmly with an application roller. The full method is in the ultimate guide to sound and vibration damping.
Frequently asked questions
When do I choose the Extra version of 4 mm?
The Extra mat of 4 mm adds more mass and is the choice for large or strongly resonating panels, such as floor panels and wheel arches. For doors, roof and most panels the standard 2 mm mat is sufficient.
How many square metres do I need?
Count on about 60% coverage of each panel to be damped; full coverage is not needed for an optimal result. A Bulk pack of 3.75 m² thus covers roughly 6 m² of panel surface.
Which vehicles is Silent Coat suitable for?
Almost any vehicle: car, van, camper and 4x4. The self-adhesive mats follow irregular surfaces as well.
